The Card Lounge

Welcome to the Card Lounge, Royal River Lounge's dedicated space for social offline poker, where face-to-face play meets riverside elegance.

Located within the venue at 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank. Designed for adults aged 18 and over. No digital gaming interfaces—only physical cards, tables, and conversation.

The Social Heart of the Lounge

A Social Space for Face-to-Face Poker

Designed for Conversation and Play

The Card Lounge is built around the joy of in-person poker, where players read expressions, share stories, and enjoy the game together. Comfortable seating arranged around physical poker tables encourages interaction, while the lounge's layout promotes easy movement between tables and the restaurant. Soft lighting and acoustic design keep conversations clear without noise.

  • All poker is offline and face-to-face.
  • Seating is arranged to keep every player part of the conversation.
  • The room is designed for relaxed movement between tables and dining areas.

No Screens, Just Cards

Unlike digital gaming, the Card Lounge focuses entirely on physical cards and chips as table accessories, creating a tactile and authentic experience. Cards are shuffled and dealt by hand. Poker chips are used solely as physical table accessories for tracking play. The absence of screens keeps attention on the people around the table.

An entirely offline room. Every hand is played with physical cards at a real table, with no screens, no digital interfaces, and no online play.

Evening Ambience and Design

An Evening Retreat by the River

Deeper Tones and Reflective Surfaces

The Card Lounge embraces deeper evening tones inspired by the river at dusk, with warm ivory accents and subtle mirrored fragments. River blue and deep berry dominate the palette, softened by warm ivory. Irregular wave-shaped section boundaries echo the nearby Yarra River, and typography is occasionally duplicated as a soft distorted reflection for a cinematic feel.

Comfortable Seating and Table Layout

Seating is arranged to balance privacy and sociability, with each poker table positioned to allow easy movement and clear sightlines. Chairs are upholstered for long sessions. Tables are spaced to avoid crowding. Lighting is focused on the tables, leaving surrounding areas in gentle shadow.

  • Upholstered chairs for longer sessions
  • Generous spacing between tables
  • Focused table lighting with softer surroundings

Playing Social Poker in the Lounge

The Joy of Social Poker

  1. Gather Around the Table

Social poker in the Card Lounge begins with players taking their seats at a physical poker table, ready for a friendly game. Games are organised informally among visitors, and staff can assist with seating and table setup. No prior experience is required—the focus is on enjoyment.

  2. Cards, Chips, and Conversation

The game proceeds with physical cards and chips as table accessories, while conversation flows naturally. Cards are dealt by hand. Chips are used to track play but have no monetary value. Players are encouraged to interact and enjoy the social aspect.
